Is Your Fridge Freezing Everything?
If your fridge is freezing food instead of keeping it cool, it is usually caused by a few common issues. This can include a temperature setting that is too low, blocked vents, a faulty thermostat, a damaged door seal, or a malfunctioning damper control.
1. Temperature Is Set Too Low
If your fridge is set below 37°F (3°C), items on the back or top shelves may start to freeze. This is one of the most common causes of overcooling.
Cold air flows from the freezer into the fridge through vents. When these vents are blocked by food or containers, the cold air gets trapped, causing nearby items to freeze.
A malfunctioning thermostat or thermistor can send incorrect readings to the control board, causing the fridge to overcool or run constantly.
A cracked, warped, or loose door seal allows warm air to enter the fridge. The appliance then works harder to maintain the temperature, which can lead to freezing in certain areas.
